Weems was born Nov. 23, 1857, the son of Edward Mmortimer Weems and Elizabeth Sapp. William Weems was a planter and owned land adjoining his sister, Mrs. Thomas Monroe Adams, on the Chattahoochee River below Columbus in Chattahoochee County. When the US government wanted land for the new military camp in World War I, their plantations were selected. They sold for a handsome price, and they bought a new farm/plantation in what is now in north Columbus. Weems was still unmarried in 1921.

The second portrait is that of a confederate soldier in the civil War. It is believed to be that of Lock Weems, born in 1835 and died 14 July 1862. He enlisted on 3 July 1861 in the 15th Alabama Regiment. He was wounded 27 Jun 1861 at the Battle of Cold Harbor acting as captain of company A. He died of his wounds in Richmond and is buried in Linwood Cemetery in Columbus.

She was born in 1903 and died in 1994. Lille Belle was married to George M. Adams in 1921. The 1940 census lists George and Lillie Belle in the McCrary district of Columbus on Hamilton Road. Five children were listed at home with them; George Jr, Thomas Edwin, Charlotte, Philip and William Weems.
