This speech was presented at the laying of the cornerstone of the Confederate Monument statue located in Linwood Cemetery. The ceremony took place April 14, 1879, with Grand Master James M. Mobley as Officiant. A newspaper article in the Columbus Sunday Enquirer-Sun on April 13, 1879 details the events and details of the program including some of the artifacts to be included inside the cornerstone.
