Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a fold-out map of Columbus, Georgia, printed in 1871. Besides the street grid, using the original street names, it shows the location of various sized pipes and cisterns. It also locates prominent places such as the Pest House (hospital), located on the river next to the boat yard, the Gumby Building, the Female Academy, the Villa Reich, the Raiford House, and St. Joseph’s Academy, the African-American cemetery, among others.
