The main events mentioned are Blanchard's feelings for an unnamed local girl, the secession of Georgia, and his participation as a member of the Columbus Guards in the inauguration of Jefferson Davis in Montgomery. There is also a typescript of a letter (December 1, 1864) from the Camp of the 46th Georgia Regt near Franklin, Tennessee addressed to “Mother” and signed only “Gus” which describes a battle near Franklin.
