Scope and Contents
Typescript of the diary of Thomas Eliel Blanchard (b. 1840) of Columbus, Georgia. Its dates are November 29, 1860 to February 18, 1861. The main events mentioned are Blanchard's feelings for an unnamed local girl, the secession of Georgia, and his participation as a member of the Columbus Guards in the inauguration of Jefferson Davis in Montgomery. There is also a typescript of a letter (December 1, 1864) from the Camp of the 46th Georgia Regt near Franklin, Tennessee addressed to “Mother” and signed only “Gus” which describes a battle near Franklin.
