Scope and Contents

These materials include: city and county records; family papers; business-related materials; Civil War records; military records; biographical sketches; transportation records; records of local institutions such as The Bradley Theater, Fort Benning, Historic Columbus Foundation; various textile mills; and notable local people such as poet and physician Francis Orray Ticknor, Tom Darby, the Benning Family, the Boykin Family, a riverboat pilot named Will Carpenter, and others. Most of the photographs were separated from the collection and placed in the Photograph/Slide Collection, which has its own on-line index.

Custodial History

These materials were transferred from the Columbus Museum to the Columbus State University Archives in 1975, by Joseph B. Mahan, Jr., who was the curator of the Columbus Museum.
