These materials include Britto’s teaching materials, her plays and drafts, records of her work with the Columbus Arts Council, speeches and presentations and other documents relating to her work with the arts in Columbus. They are arranged in the following series:

Processing Information

Columbus Arts Council (CAC) - According to Article One of its undated bylaws, “The corporate name of this organization shall be The Metropolitan Arts Councils of Columbus and Ft. Benning, Georgia; and Phenix City, Alabama, Inc. The registered trade name of this organization shall be the Columbus Arts Council.” Article Two states “The purpose of the Council shall be to sponsor and encourage cultural and educational activities in Columbus and surrounding areas. . ."

Mirror Images - Mirror Images was a teen acting company that presented plays on teen problems and issues. It was developed under a Family Planning Contract, Columbus Department of Public Health with Betty Britto as the director. There were two plays in its repertoire. One was Joseph Caldwell’s Tell me it’s Going to be Wonderful, which deals with teen pregnancy. The other was Nora Sterling’s Let’s Get Basic which focused on teen-age sex, drugs, and alcohol.

Regional Ensemble Players, Inc. - The organization was organized “exclusively for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Paragraph 501 © (3) of the OIRS Code.”

What You Will Players - According to a letter Britto wrote on November 3, 1977 to the Georgia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, the group was formed in 1976 “for the purpose of touring theatre in schools and communities in the south-east. We use original adaptations combing the spoken word, song, dance, and mime.”
