Scope and Contents
These papers document the life and political career of Harry Jackson, as well as the family of his wife, Helen Lovein Jackson; his daughter, Helen Jackson Burgin and the family of her husband, Bill. The material is arranged into 4 series and is generally arranged chronologically with each series.
The series are:
Series 1 – Jackson Family
Series 2 – Burgin Family
Series 3 – Memorabilia
Series 4 – Oversized scrapbooks, photos, etc.
There is naturally considerable overlap among the families, but materials were generally left where found.

This folder contains material on the life of Charles William Burgin, who was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on December 18,1940 to Robert Fleming Burgin, Sr. and Mildred Miller Burgin. He attended Cuthbert High School and graduated from the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1960. He graduated from Auburn University as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served four years in the U.S. air Force as a captain instructor Missile Combat Crew Commander for the SAC’s Titan missile systems. He married Helen Lovein Jackson on May 20 1972. Burgin was the Chairman of the Board of the Burgin Company in Cuthbert, and Chairman and CEO of Morton Machine Works in Columbus and served on various corporate boards in Columbus. Material includes newspaper clippings, ROTC newsletters from Auburn in the 1960s, correspondence relating to his military service, and his obituary. It also contains photos of his grandparents, Robert and Jessie Carter Burgin’s extended family.
