Scope and Contents
These papers document the life and political career of Harry Jackson, as well as the family of his wife, Helen Lovein Jackson; his daughter, Helen Jackson Burgin and the family of her husband, Bill. The material is arranged into 4 series and is generally arranged chronologically with each series.
The series are:
Series 1 – Jackson Family
Series 2 – Burgin Family
Series 3 – Memorabilia
Series 4 – Oversized scrapbooks, photos, etc.
There is naturally considerable overlap among the families, but materials were generally left where found.

This folder contains a letter from Helen Lovein to her future husband, Harry Jackson; a family photo gathering of the Jackson family for Christmas of 1940; studio portraits of Harry Jackson from the early 40s; newspaper clippings of Helen Lovein at Wesleyan College; a snapshot of Helen and Harry at the pool at McDill Field on July 5, 1941 when they became engaged; engagement announcement and photos; Newspaper clippings and photos of their wedding, October 1941; a letter from the newly married Helen Lovein Jackson to her parents in October of 1941; photos of Harry Jackson in uniform; the notebook kept by Harry Jackson in June of 1942 as he crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth; a snapshot of Helen and Harry Jackson with her father, the Reverend Norman Lovein, Sr. in 1942; notes from a speech given by Harry Jackson when he was on home leave; several photos of Helen L. Jackson taken while Harry was overseas, where he served in Africa, Sicily and Italy with the 322nd Service Group of the Air Force; several photos of Harry Jackson in Sicily and with his troops, including one of him with an African-American troop; a letter dated April 8, 1943 to Helen from North Africa; the birth record of Baby Girl Jackson (Helen Lovein Jackson) on April 13, 1946; the certificate of Baptism of Helen L. Jackson on 28 July, 1946; the bulletin of Rose Hill Methodist Church of August 4, 1946 announcing the christening of Helen L. Jackson and a newspaper clipping of Harry and Helen celebrating their 5th anniversary at the Stork Club in New York City in October of 1946.
