The Columbus Jaycee organization was chartered on October 20, 1928. On that night, the Columbus Junior Chamber of Commerce came into existence with the name changing to Jaycees in 1963. Jack Key Sr. was elected the first president at that meeting. The new organization adopted projects of community value, including the downtown Christmas lighting. A “Try Columbus First” campaign to encourage people to shop Columbus first, building the Georgia Welcome Center on Victory Drive, restoring the Wells-Bagley house, bringing the Miss Georgia Pageant to Columbus, and many more projects.

Trey Carmack, 1958-2024, was the son of Comer Carmack Jr and Blanche Yarbough. He graduated from Auburn University and was a member of St. Pauls’ Methodist church. He was very active in the Columbus Jaycees and held the title of president. He was honored by his chapter with a nomination to the Georgia Jaycee Rebel Corps (Honor Corps). He served as Commander from 1998-199. He was colonel #1920 and was honored as a Georgia JCI Senator.
