Biographical / Historical
The Miss Tan American Pageant, the first national black pageant, was founded in 1964 by the rockabilly musician Lew Williams, who produced it through 1967. The winner would go on the Miss Tan Georgia Pageant and the winner of that pageant would advance to the national pageant in Texas. The Columbus event was held at the Municipal Auditorium. The Master of Ceremonies was Mr. Spurgeon A. Glenn, Jr.
