Biographical / Historical

The Walter F. George Lock, Dam, and Powerhouse were authorized by the Rivers and Harbors act of 1944. Construction on the project began in 1957, and the project was placed in service in 1963. Located on the Chattahoochee River near Fort Gaines in southwest Georgia.
