Steamboat Captains
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of one folder of the names of the captains and their vessels on the rivers before 1867. The list includes the Apalachicola/Chattahoochee and Flint rivers. It was compiled by Edward A. Mueller, a well-known Florida steamboat authority, for his book published in 1986. The folder was originally numbered MC 087 when it was part of the Columbus Public Library.

Biographical / Historical
Edward A. Mueller is an American author and historian known for his detailed works on the history of steamboats and maritime transportation in the United States, particularly in the southeastern and Gulf Coast regions.
Edward A. Mueller was born in 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri and earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
Some of his most famous works include Perilous Journeys: A History of Steamboating on the Chattahoochee, Apalachicola, and Flint Rivers, 1828-1928, Along the St. Johns and Ocklawaha Rivers, and The Ocean Steamship Company of Savannah: The Savannah Line.

This folder of the Steamboat Captains came to CSU Archives from the Columbus Public Library in the fall of 2013 when the public library closed its archival section and donated their materials to the CSU Archives.
