Biographical / Historical
Roff Sims, Jr. was born November 10, 1894 in Columbus, Georgia, the son of Roff Sims, Sr. (1864-1932) and Belle Swift (1871-1939). He graduated from the University of Georgia and the Atlanta Law School. During World War I he served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant. After the war he worked in the cotton business until 1925 when he began his career in banking. Over the course of that career he with the Atlanta and Lowry National Bank, the First National Bank and the Trust Company of Georgia. His wife, Dr. Catherine Sims, was on the faculty of Agnes Scott Collection and in 1946 was named Woman of the Year in Education. He was a member of the Piedmont Driving club, the Nine O’clocks, the Atlanta Gyro Club the Cactus Club and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He died in Atlanta on August 1, 1988.
