Biographical / Historical
J. Rhodes Browne (1819-1900) and his son, Rhodes Browne (1865-1936), were industrialists and businessmen involved with the Georgia Home Insurance Company. The elder Rhodes Browne came to Columbus to “set” the water wheel at the Eagle Mill in the early 1850s. He managed the company during the Civil War and eventually became an entrepreneur in his own right. The younger Browne served as mayor of Columbus and chairman of the Muscogee County Commission.
