This small collection consists of 5 ledgers, receipts from 1932 to 1935 and a catalog of Philco products from the Robinson Radio Sales and Service Shop.

Biographical / Historical

The Robinson Radio Service was located in 1932 on 13th Street in Columbus, Georgia and then in 1933 moved to 2232 Wynnton Road in what is now MidTown, Columbus to 1936, After 1950 they were located at 1313 Broadway in Columbus until the owner’s death in 1971. 1972 City Directory shows the business as Radion TV Service at the same address, but run by J. Travis Brooks, who had been the general manager. He and his son Jimmy further owned the business when it was located on Veteran’s Parkway.

Radford A. Robinson was born 8 Jan 1908 in Winder, Georgia and moved to Columbus in 1925. He married Edna Rice in 1932. Using the Columbus City Directories, Robinson did not have a radio business in 1931 and lived at 1243 ½ 5th Ave. By 1936, he and Edna were living at 2227 Frances St. in Wynnton. By 1940, they were living at 817 Brown Ave until 1971 when the address was 2416 Lookout Dr. Radford Robinson died 19 Nov 1971 at age 63 and is buried in Parkhill Cemetery. They attended St. Luke Methodist church. Radford and his brother Bobby established Robinson Aircraft Sales in 1946. He served in the Civil Air Patrol in WWII.
