East Highland and Beallwood School Newspapers
Scope and Contents
This small collection of school newspapers date from 1935 to 1944. Twenty folders contain the East Highlander, the publication of East Highland School, and one folder holds the Beallwood School’s News and Views. These newspapers contain student writing of stories, poems, jokes, holiday cut-outs and other material pertinent to a K-8 school.

Biographical / Historical
East Highland School was an elementary school in Columbus on 17th Street with grades kindergarten to eighth grade during the 1930s and 40s. Beallwood School was also an elementary school during this period in the Beallwood area of Columbus. East Highland named their paper The East Highlander. Beallwood’s was called News and Views. East Highlander runs from October 1935 to December 1939. The October edition of 1935 was their first edition. The Beallwood News and Views from February 1944 shows volume 5, which could have a starting date of 1940. Both newspapers are mimeographed. The stories written by the students give an insight into their home and school lives.
