Eva Peabody Scrapbook Collection
Scope and Contents
This small collection in one Hollinger box, consists of materials collected by Eva Peabody of her family events, friends and neighbors in Montclair, New Jersey, and of the Lake George, Saratoga Springs community in upstate New York. The scrapbook starts in 1911 and follows events up into the 1950s. She cut and pasted newspaper articles, magazine articles, photographs, and invitations into her scrapbook chronicling the life of the Peabody family. Society news of the times is noted.

Biographical / Historical
Eva Peabody was the niece of George Foster Peabody and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones Peabody. George (1852-1938) and Charles (1856-1924) were born in Columbus, George, the sons of Elvira Canfield Peabody (1824-1901 and George Henry Peabody who married in 1851.Two other children born to them were Royal Canfield Peabody and Eva Louise Peabody.
Eva Peabody made her debut in 1912. She was engaged to Clarence Everestt Bacon and married on November 6, 1914.The summer home of her parents burned in the summer of 1914, on the shores of Lake George.
In 1916 there is an invitation to dinner with President and Mrs. Wilson.
Katrina Trask was the wife of George Foster Peabody and was a poet and playwright. She was previously Mrs. Spencer Trask. She was born in 1853. They married in 1921 and she died Feb. 19, 1922.at Yadoo, NY.
George Foster Peabody was a ell known philanthropist and a friend of Franklin D. Roosevelt, sharing their Warm Springs connection. Peabody died at Warm Springs.
This collection gives an excellent insight into the summer communities around Lake George and Saratoga Springs. New York in the early part of the 20th century.
