Biographical / Historical
This poem was written by Carson McCullers for her friends, Jack and Edith Begner. Jack was a physician and Edith was a published novelist. Both were friends of Carson McCullers and Tennessee Williams, as well as many other literary and artistic people, both in New York and Provincetown, Massachusetts. The donor remembers “many a Sunday morning in Provincetown finding Norman Mailer sitting at the kitchen table waiting for Jack to patch him up after his legendary Saturday night brawls in the bars of Provincetown.”
