This collection chronicles the life of Barbara Jewett Swift in photographs. The albums and loose photos are of her and her family members and forebearers.

Barbra was born November 11, 1931, to Edward Wellington Swift Jr. and Vera Howard Swift. In 1940 they were living at 1700 Buena Vista Rd in Columbus. She had three sisters, Alma, Vera, and Mary. She was a graduate of Columbus High School, Mt. Vernon Jr. College, and Rollins College where she was awarded a BA. Barbara married Jere M. Pound III and had 5 sons, Jere M. Pound IV, Edward S., William C., Howard F. and Robert W. She died Feb. 27, 2009, and is buried in Linwood Cemetery.

Barbara’s mother, Vera Howard, 1907-1980 was the daughter of Alvan Howard and Vera Dozier. Vera Dozier, 1885-1976, was the daughter of Albert Sidney Dozier and Mary Wellborn Cook. Alvan Howard, 1884-1911 was the son of Toombs Crawford Steven Howard and Mary Antoinette. Alvan married Vera Dozier in 1906.

Barbara’s father, Edward W. Swift Jr, 1905-1983, was the son of Edward W. Swift and Alma Williams, who married in 1903. Edward by 1910 was president of a cotton mill. Edward Jr. was a student at Georgia Tech. The photograph albums contain hundreds of photos of all these family members, showing family life of well-to-do families in Columbus.
