The Dental Hygienist Society of Columbus was organized in May of 1969. At a luncheon at the Martinique Hotel in Columbus, Georgia on May 25, 1969, Mrs. Ennis Walter of Richland, Georgia was installed as president of the new organization. The Dental Hygienist Society of Georgia presented Mrs. Walter with a Charter, formally incorporating the local chapter into the state organization. Other officers were then installed.
The goals of the society were to unite all those in the profession of Dental Hygiene and to educate the public. In October of 1974 the Dental Hygienist' Society of Georgia became a component of the American Dental Hygienist's Association.
