Frances Tucker Collection
Scope and Contents
The Frances Tucker Collection consists of two boxes of materials, folders and scrapbooks. Box 1 contains 7 folders of material pertaining to Columbus High School which Ms. Tucker attended from 1947-1953. Included in these scrapbooks are clippings from the school newspapers, graduation exercises and personal clippings. Three scrapbooks in this box are memory books from the same high school years of 1950-1953. There are 9 issues of Muscogiana, the genealogy society magazine of Muscogee County, Georgia, of which Ms. Tucker was a member. Box 2 contains 3 oversized scrapbooks of clippings; one from her senior year of high school, the second of mixed high school, college years and after, and the third a collection from the 1890's of wedding clippings, obituaries, poems, cards, advertisements and memorabilia.

Biographical / Historical
Frances Tucker is the daughter of W.C. Tucker, who edited the Columbus Enquirer newspaper, and Daisy Tucker, the newspaper's librarian in Columbus, Georgia. Frances graduated from Columbus High School where her interest in English and art developed. She was editor of the school newspaper and studied art during the summers with Edward Shorter. She attended and graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, where she was also on the school literary magazine and editor of the year book. She interned during summer months at the St. Petersburg Times and the Hartford Courant, learning the newspaper business. She was a debutant during the 1956/57 season. She received the Rotary Fellowship in1959 to study at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Her Masters in English Literature is from the University of Arkansas, where she also taught.
