Edward S. Shorter Collection
Scope and Contents
Part of the collection consists of approximately five hundred monographs from his personal library relating to art, travel, the classics, foreign culture and other related themes. These have been cataloged and are housed in the Archives. In addition there is a box of material relating to the arts as well as Shorter family material.

Biographical / Historical
Edward Swift Shorter was born in 1897 in Columbus, Georgia. He attended the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia and Mercer University in Macon,Georgia. He also studied at the Corcoran Art School in Washington, D. C., and in Paris. His art has been exhibited in various museums. He was director of the Columbus Museum of Arts and Crafts, and in 1980 made a donation to the Columbus College Foundation, Inc. to establish the Edward Shorter Endowment Fund. He passed away in 1987.
