Golden-Pound Family Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the 9 diaries, 8 binders of Barbara Pound and 13 scrapbooks of the Golden and Pound families of Columbus, Georgia. The diaries are from three family members –Lyda May Key Golden, Barbara Golden Pound and William Swift Golden. The diaries relate detailed activities in the lives of a prominent Columbus family, dating from the 1920s to the late 1990s.
The scrapbooks contain the photographs, postcards and memorabilia of the travels of Barbara Golden Pound and her husband Murphy, a prominent Columbus architect. The scrapbooks date from 1975 to 1993.

Biographical / Historical
Barbara Golden Pound was born in Columbus, Georgia, on November 29, 1925, the daughter of Theodore Ernest Golden and Lyda May Key Golden and the twin sister of Elizabeth (Bettie) Lennard Golden Tyler. Barbara attended Wynnton Elementary School and Columbus High School and graduated from Sweet Briar College with a degree in Art. She married Murphy Pound in 1954. Her three sons are Murphy Garrett Pound (Garry), Theodore E.G. Pound (Ted), and James Key Pound. Barbara was one of the founders of the Columbus Museum in 1953 and was an art teacher in Columbus for many years. They lived for many years in the Overlook community of Columbus. She died 26 June 2003.
Barbara’s mother, Lyda May Key Pound married Theodore Ernest Golden. In the 1930s, they lived at 1002 Blandford Ave. in Overlook. She belonged to the Community Service League, the DAR and the House and Garden Club. Lyda was born in 1899 to James Biggers Key (1877-1959) and Lyda Botts (1878-1976) and died 1957.
William Swift Golden was born 17 April 1896 to Theodore Ernest Golden Sr (1859-1937) and Elizabeth Antoinette Lennard (1861-1924) and was the brother of Theodore Ernest Golden Jr and uncle to Barbara Golden Pound. He died 26 Sept 1971 and is buried in Linwood Cemetery in Columbus.
Murphy Pound was a well-known Columbus architect. He and Barbara Golden married in 1954. He graduated from Georgia Tech.

These diaries and scrapbooks were donated by Brinkley B. Pound in August 2016. Brinkley’s husband James Key Pound is one of the sons of Barbara Golden and Murphy Pound.
