Biographical / Historical
Evelyn Cargill (August 17, 1872-September 29, 1964) was born in Columbus, Georgia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cargill, and sister of J. Ralston Cargill. She married James Johnson Gilbert (1865-1948) in 1894. She is buried in Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.

Custodial History
These materials were part of a donation made in 1980 by Evelyn's nieces, Marjorie Cargill Petri and Louise Cargill, who were the daughters of Evelyn's brother, J. Ralston Cargill. They were initially processed as part of that donation (MC 77), but were re-processed at some point to stand alone as the Evelyn Cargill Gilbert Poetry Collection.
