This collection consist of materials related to Mrs. Hammett's writings as well as material that reflects the social, historical and personal aspects of her life. Subjects reflected here include Columbus High School, genealogy, Gracious Ladies of Georgia, architecture, the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, the theater, literature and history.

Biographical / Historical

Louise Barfield (Biddy) Hammett was born on September 18, 1929. She was a founder of the Ocfuskee Historical Society that became the Troup County Historical Society, and helped initiate the Troup County Archives. She chaired the Columbus Board of Historic and Architectural Review and worked to establish Columbus as a Certified Local government in historic Preservation. She was proclaimed a Gracious Lady of Georgia in 1993. She passed away on November 25, 2022.
