Scope and Contents

The collection consists of three scrapbooks covering the time of Cargill's leadership of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as some loose advertisements for the Gilbert Printing Company and a photo of Cargill as a young man.

Biographical / Historical

John Ralston Cargill was born September 2, 1875 and died in Columbus, Georgia on May 15, 1944. He was a prominent businessman in Columbus. Among other investments, he built the Ralston Hotel (later renamed RalstonTowers), and served as president of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce in the 1920s.
