Scope and Contents
This collection consists of annual reports and charters of various interrelated railroad companies and an annual report of the American Railway Master Mechanics Association.

Biographical / Historical
The Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company was incorporated in 1850.
The Alabama & Florida Railroad Company of Florida was incorporated in 1853, and later sold to the Pensacola & Louisville Railroad Company (created in 1868). This in turn was sold to the Pensacola Railroad Company (created in 1877), which was eventually transferred to the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company.
The South & North Alabama Railroad Company was incorporated by an act of the Alabama Legislature in 1854. The Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company purchased most of its stock.
The Selma & Gulf Railroad Company, incorporated in 1858, subsequently became the Pensacola & Selma Railroad Company, and its stock was transferred to the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company.
The Pensacola & Atlantic Railroad was chartered in 1881. The official groundbreaking ceremonies in Pensacola on August 22, 1881 brought into focus the importance of the West Florida enterprise and its relationship with the expanding Louisville & Nashville Railroad. The Pensacola & Atlantic Railroad ceased operating as an independent line on July 1, 1885 when it was incorporated into the Louisville and Nashville system.

This collection was donated to the CSU Archives in the fall of 2013 when the Columbus Public Library closed its archival collection. It was formerly numbered MC 089.
