Biographical / Historical
Baker High School was built in 1943 primarily to serve the military families in South Columbus, as well as other Columbus, Georgia students. It was named for Newton Diehl Baker, the Secretary of War in World War I. The first graduating class was in 1945 and the last class graduated on June 6, 1991. The school was demolished after standing empty for several years. An historical marker was placed at the site of the former school on May 18, 2013.
