Biographical / Historical

Katie V. Colquitt was born August 3, 1902 to Walter J. and Gussie Colquitt. By 1910 the family was living on Hamilton Road in Columbus with eight children at home. By 1920 they were living in Smiths Station, Lee County, Alabama. The father was a farmer. By the early 1920s, the family was back in Columbus where she attended school. By the 1940 census Kate was living at 2127 East 8th St, Bozeman, Muscogee County, Georgia, a section of Columbus. She lived with her mother and brother and was a clerk for the County Tax Commissioners Office for the city of Columbus. She was the deputy clerk in this office during the 1950s and 60s. By 1970 she was retired and living at 2414 19th Ave in the St. Elmo area. Kate died August 9, 1983 and is buried in Parkhill Cemetery.
