Biographical / Historical
The George Walton Chapter of the DAR was named for George Walton, soldier, statesman, governor, senator, jurist, and signer of the Declaration of Independence. The organizing regent of the Walton chapter was Mrs. Elisha Paul Dismukes, Sr. An organizational meeting was held in her home on February 22, 1901. A charter was granted to the chapter by the National Society July 4, 1901.
Mrs. Elisha P. Dismukes,Sr. was the first Regent, Mrs. Walter W. Curtis the Vice Regent, Miss Frances Stephens Scott the recording Secretary, Miss Maude M. Lee Dismukes the Corresponding Secretary, Mrs. William Pope Harrison the Registrar, Miss Anne M. Hughes Bruce the Assistant Registrar, and Miss Ruby de Graffenreid Du Pont the Historian.
