The story of George Monroe Adams and his family can primarily start on the plantation farm his family owned in the McCrary District of Columbus, Georgia on Hamilton Road in the northern part of Muscogee county. The property was bought in 1918 by Charlotte Woodville Weems Adams, William Andrew Weems, her brother, and George Monroe Adams, her son. The two families were displaced by the US government from their land in Chattahoochee County when it acquired land for the future Ft. Benning. The farmhouse was built in 1896 in the Queen Anne cottage plan with 3276 square feet. The family farmed 1100 acres surrounding the area now known as Weems Road and Veterans Parkway. The original farm was a plantation with at least 10 structures.

George M. Adams was born on 10 Jan 1898, the son of Thomas Monroe Adams, 1848-1898, and Charlotte Woodville Weems, 1860-1934. Charlotte had four children with only Geroge surviving. Thomas Adams and 3 of the children are buried in cemetery # 16 on Ft. Benning, on land that was once their farm. George married Lillie Belle Kimbrough, 1903-1994, in 1921. According to his WWI draft card, he was 5’6’ and had red hair. George and Lille Belle had five children and lived on Hamilton Road with George listed as a farm operator in 1940. The children were George Jr., Thomas Edwin, Charlotte, Philip, and William Weems. George Adams also had a plantation in Twin Springs, Alabama, between Cottonton and Eufaula. Many pf the materials in the boxes pertain to this plantation.
