This collection consists of the papers of Dr. Dews, mainly related to his research on Carson McCullers. This material includes posters from film versions of McCullers' books, books and monographs, recordings, photographs, Carson McCullers Society newsletters, playbills and copious scholarly work related to his dissertation and books relating to Carson McCullers, both published and unpublished. In the latter category are the research files for his projected study of the time Carson McCullers lived in a house owned by George Davis at 7 Middagh Street in Brooklyn, New York in the 1940s.

Processing Information

This folder contains photocopies of letters from Carson McCullers and Reeves McCullers, mostly to Edwin Peacock, or jointly to him and John Zeigler. There are some later ones which are joint letters of Mary Mercer and Carson McCullers to Edwin and Peacock and John Zeigler. The originals are at Duke University. Duke’s David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library has given the CSU Archives permission to retain the copies of these materials made by Dr. Dews, as well as others mentioned below, but all requests for publication must come from them, as well as citing them as the owners of the materials.
