Series 2 - Economic Development and Employment (ED&E)

 Series

Scope and Contents

Series 2 contains the records and the correspondence of the MCUL's Economic Development and Employment program area.

This unit of the MCUL works with issues relating to job creation, job training and placement of individuals within Muscogee County. The MCUL has worked with a number of other entities to accomplish its goals. These include the Columbus Employment Training Administration (CETA) and as part of the Job Training Partnership Project (JTPP). This partnership included the Lower Chattahoochee Area Planning and Development Commission and the Middle Flint Area Planning and Development Commission (which together formed the Private Industry Council for Georgia Service Delivery Area Six (PIC). In addition to these main partners, the ED&E worked with various grant agencies including: state agencies (such as the Georgia Department of Labor); national organizations such as the National Urban League (NUL); and many local businesses and organizations, including the United Way, many of which donated funds directly to support its programs and also hired clients of the MCUL in job placement programs including its Summer Youth Investment Program (SYIP), also known as the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

These files document the ED&E administration, including staff hiring, training, budgeting, fundraising, out-reach, and client services. Also present are various publications which served as reference material for the ED&E staff.
